About

MES Mampad College is set up in 1965 by the famous theologian and scholar CN Ahamed Moulavi with an insight of giving higher education in the backward area of Eranad and Valluvanad. Later it was handed over to Muslim Educational Society Calicut. When the college upgraded as a degree college in 1970 Arabic was one of the second languages. In 1977 a double main degree course in Arabic and Islamic history was introduced and after three years Post graduation in Arabic was sanctioned considering the unique service rendered by the Muslim Educational Society to the Muslim community in Malabar. The courses offering:

  • BA Arabic & Islamic History
  • MA Arabic
  • PhD in Arabic language and Literature
  • Diploma in TAFL (Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language)
BA Arabic and Islamic history is having strength of 40 students and PG Arabic is having a strength of twenty students being admitted in every year. Apart from that BA/BSc additional language is having two batches with a range of 90 students in each batch. B.Com and BSc Food Technology is having one Arabic batch in the first and second semester. Every year 60 students pass out as graduates and Post graduates from this department. A good number of them are absorbed by the schools in Kerala. A unique virtue of this BA course is that they are qualified to be teachers in Primary and Upper Primary schools without further training. Many of the PG students because of their ability in both Arabic and English are working in Government, Government Aided, CBSE and other unaided schools as Arabic teachers. A good number of them are in abroad in higher salaried posts they work as translators, PROs, private assistants, school and college teachers. It is worth mentioning that last year in Kerala PSC College lecturers rank list, out of the first twenty candidates five of them were former PG students of this department. Two of our former students are working as translators in World Bank Chennai branch.
