Department Profile
The Department of Economics, established in 1965 alongside the college, quickly ascended to prominence. Recognized as a P.G Department in 1984, its academic prowess was further solidified in December 2023, when the University of Calicut upgraded it to a research department. Renowned for its BA and MA programs, the Department has diligently addressed the region's need for skilled labor while championing educational equity, particularly among minority communities. Its commitment to local economic development is evident through research and outreach initiatives, including national and international seminars and workshops. In 2022, the Department initiated an internship program for PG students, providing hands-on experience at esteemed institutions like "Kudumbasree". This practical exposure not only enriches students' learning but also contributes meaningfully to societal advancement. With a focus on enhancing human capital and fostering inclusive growth, the Department of Economics stands as a beacon of academic excellence, poised to shape the economic leaders of tomorrow.
