Department of physics

The Department of Physics is one of the oldest and the most prestigious science Departments of the College. The Department started functioning in 1965 under the eminent leadership of Prof. K.A. Narayanan Namboothirippad. The B.Sc Degree programme was started with Mathematics and Computer Science as subsidiaries in 1998. Currently the Department has Five faculty members and Two technical staffs.  The Department aims at the development of scientific outlook and general intellectual advances in academic instruction with the student’s overall personality development. The Department is rich in infrastructure facilities which maintain separate laboratories for core and complementary courses. The Department functions a vibrant Physics club “IMPULSE” under which exciting events and projects are organized, allowing students to experience what it is like to be a scientist. Another major initiative of the Department is the extension activity programme “LENS: Laminate and Empower the Natives through Science” to promote the scientific temper and positive environment in the society. LED appliances assembling Unit: LUMES is functioning under the Department, to develop the skill of assembling and testing LED lights among the students. The Department has also organized various certificate courses, bridge courses, conferences, seminars, webinars, training programmes and other academic events over the years.
